Two Music Festivals You Should Be Attending

Want to have one (well two) of the best music experiences in your life for cheap? If you're in school, chances are you're broke and love music. If you're out of school and have a real job, chances are you're broke and love music. So why not pay the little guys some attention? Music On The Mountaintop and The Festy Experience are two smaller-scale music festivals located in the southeast. Both boast amazing lineups for cheap ticket prices. Both offer camping grounds and an environment focusing on wide genre bases (folk and bluegrass mostly, but variety is the name of the game). Click 'Read More' below to learn more about each festival and download some of the talent scheduled to play...

The First And The Closest: Music On The Mountaintop
Music On The Mountaintop is a large scale music festival located in Boone, North Carolina and takes place on the weekend of August 26-27th. Why should you go? Well besides the phenomenal lineup and cheap ticket prices (I'll talk about both in a little), a portion of the festival's proceeds will be benefiting two non-profit organizations: Appalachian Voices and The Mountain Alliance. The first is an organization devoted to protecting the southern Appalachian environment, and the latter is committed to helping students pursue leadership opportunities. So in addition to being exposed to one of the best music festivals around, you'll be making the world that much better to live in; congratulations. I assume, however, that you're not reading this to find out what these festivals benefit, but rather who's playing in them. There are numerous ticket options, and no matter which one you choose, you'll feel like you're stealing. The lineup for Music On The Mountaintop this year is outstanding and worth more than a two-day pass for just $70. To name just a few, Railroad Earth, Sam Bush, Acoustic Syndicate, and The New Familiars will all be in attendance. To see the full 2011 lineup, learn more about the different ticket options, or satisfy any other needs, visit the festival's website. See you on the mountaintop!

The Second But Still Just As Good: The Festy Experience
The Festy Experience takes place in Nelson County, Virginia on October 7-9th. Talent is brought to together via the band, The Infamous Stringdusters. Coming from the festival's website, "from their 5 years of touring, The Stringdusters have crossed paths with some of the best musicians in the world and can take this time each year to invite a select few to share one experience. The focus is not popularity, but talent and vibe." The Festy Experience also has a pretty good deal, as you can drop $80 for a three day camping pass. This should be an easy decision especially when you see the festival's lineup: Brett Dennen, Railroad Earth (more or less their encore show from Boone), The Wood Brothers, and I can't forget the Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad...Check out their website to learn more about the three day music pandemonium.
