Keystone State of Mind Mixtap

Finally Tayyib Ali's new sophomore mixtape, "Keystone State of Mind," is here. His leak of "California Love" has been the most popular track on Beat Dropping, so I'm curious as to see if this new mixtape has as much success. Great tracks that for the most part are laid back. Download the mixtape after my favorites and enjoy your Monday night with Tayyib Ali.

Relaxing on Thursday with Three Legged Fox

Three Legged Fox is based out of Philadelphia and they have a catchy reggae/rock appeal to them. Kyle Wareham does an excellent job on vocals and makes every song unique, and consequently leaves you wanting more. A great band to hang out to or even study to, Three Legged Fox is perfect for this lazy Thursday afternoon. Enjoy

Slow Down - Three Legged Fox

Gone - Three Legged Fox

Bonus Track:
I posted a mashup by Mother Earth Remixes earlier this week that featured Birdy and her cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love. Here's the full length cover, a beautiful song.

Khalifa Fans "Wizdom" Mixtape

A group, going by the name of Kahlifa Fans, has compiled a mixtape of several unreleased Wiz Khalifa songs. I found the mixtape via GMAD and was pleasantly surprised. Some of the songs sound a bit unfinished but there are definitely some hidden gems here. Download the mixtape after my favorites

Relieving Stress with Benjamin Leftwich

I've got a pretty busy week and needed to calm down and relax tonight. Thankfully I discovered Benjamin Leftwich. Based out of York, England, Leftwich is the first foreign artist featured on Beat Dropping. Both of the following songs are covers, the first of The Band's "Atlantic City," and the second of The Killer's "When You Were Young." Both are alternative takes on the classic tracks and both are simply beautiful. Thanks to Charles Nation for introducing me, now lay back and relax with Benjamin Leftwich...

Atlantic City - Benjamin Francis Leftwich

When You Were Young - Benjamin Francis Leftwich

New Mixtape: The White Noise

White Noise, a mashup artist who has been around for a while now, just released a new mixtape on DML called "Whiteout." Not much to say other than it's on two discs, and if plaid continuously, the tracks run into each other to make it seem like you're listening to one long, awesome song. Full mixtape download after my featured favorites...

Tony Danza - White Noise

No Streisands - White Noise

All By Yourself - White Noise

Mother Earth Remixes Produce More Gold

One of the most popular tracks I've featured on Beat Dropping has been by Mother Earth Remixes, and featured an uncommon pairing of Greg Laswell and Tupac. They just released another track that, in my opinion, is twice as good. Tupac is featured once more, as well as up and coming singer/songwriter Birdy. Enjoy this track, it's amazing.

Folk For Your Monday

I watched a short, low-budget movie named "One Week" last night, and experienced one of the most pleasing soundtracks I have heard in a while. The movie features Joshua Jackson who at the beginning of the film discovers he has terminal cancer and only a week's chance at living. Consequently, he decides to drop everything, buy a motorcycle, and flee westward through the vast Canadian country. Each song reflects the mood perfectly, while, personally, winning my ears over. Here's my favorite...

Weighty Ghost - Winter Sleep

Two New Mashups

It's not hard to create a decent mashup with a Pretty Lights track, but these two tracks are nothing short of perfect. Both use Pretty Light beats not normally featured in past mashups, and therefore produce a new sound and appeal. Hope you enjoy

Couldn't Resist the Afterlife Parade

I'm sitting in the library right now studying for a test I have Thursday, and I can't help but listen to Afterlife Parade's new EP, Death, on repeat. The group carries a unique sound that seems to get stuck in your head, but in a good way. If you like them, visit LaFamos's profile on them and request the password for the EP download. Here are two of my favorites other than "Arrows Fly," the song I posted a little bit earlier.

Death - Afterlife Parade

Nothing but Love Can Stay - Afterlife Parade

Tuesday Montage

I can't decide what mood I'm in, so I've just decided to put up a post with a little bit of everything. The last song might not catch your attention at first, but you'd be foolish not to listen to it twice. My friends LaFamos at tipped me off about the group, and I'm so happy they did. Real emotion is felt from the following song, "Arrows Fly," as "the band decided to write an entire EP about Death, but not in a depressing way. They wanted to write something that is more of the mind set of acceptance of death and celebration of life." Hope you enjoy Afterlife Parade and the rest of the montage. Comment on or Like the post if you want more of a particular group

My Notes - Atmosphere

Jah Army - Damian & Stephen Marley

Exploration of Step - White Panda

Bring Em Home - D.veloped

Good Girls Don't Grow On Trees

Cris Cab is a 17 year old from Miami, Florida who has a knack for generating addictive sounds and vocals. I included his cover of Kanye West's "All of the Lights" recently, and just now looked for more of his stuff. To my pleasure, he just came out with an original track that is extremely catchy. Cab seems to have a reggae/pop/rock feel to him, and it works well. Here are a couple of tracks from Cab, enjoy

Good Girls - Cris Cab

All of the Lights - Cris Cab

Black and Yellow - Cris Cab
(As much as this song is overplayed, Cab makes it likable again)

Stay On Your Feet With Railroad Earth

I'm not quite sure what it is exactly, but this song makes me relaxed and happy. It's Sunday night and the last thing I want is to start another week. Fortunately, there's a song for every mood, and right now, this one is keeping me on my feet. I hope it does the same for you, enjoy

Two Brand New Tracks for Your Friday Afternoon

Both of these tracks are must downloads and are guaranteed to get you rolling this Friday afternoon. XV, aka Vizzy, is quickly becoming one of my favorite rappers and he's won me over again with his brand new track, "When We're Done." The other is a newly released remix of A-Trak's "Ray Ban Vision" that mainly features an artist named Donnis. Enjoy your Friday afternoon with both of these brand new tracks...

Acoustic Guitar Solos

I'm a huge fan of instrumentals, especially anything with an acoustic guitar. That's why I decided to post my favorite acoustic guitar solos that will inevitably cause you to drop jaw at some point. Watching these artists perform leaves me in awe, especially since I'm not musically gifted. Sit back and enjoy the show; the download link to a zip file containing my favorites is below the videos.

Another Great Track

The amount of quality music flowing into my library lately is unreal. Here's another song with a lot going on, yet is an easy listen. Great sound, great track

Ocean Drop - PJ Simas

Sick New Track For Your Wednesday Night

Here's a brand new track delivered by Wale and Mac Miller. A great duo, Wale and Mac's song "So What" has a laid back beat with an easy flow that seamlessly floats through the air. Have fun on your Wednesday night with Wale and Mac, enjoy

So What - Mac Miller ft. Wale

Finally Here

Probably one of my favorite rap songs in my library, Moufy's "Twist It and Light It," finally has a music video as of yesterday. I hope you enjoy, click the song title to see the original post and to download the song if you don't already have it.

Owning the Night with Dom Liberati

Another great artist brought to my attention by my friends at LaFamos, Dom Liberati reminds me a lot of Kings of Leon. LA-based, Liberati's band uses a "combination of talent that...results in the kind of memorable live show that can’t help but win over an audience." If you like his sound, check his website out and support his music. A music video for the following song is in the works and will definitely be posted when it comes out. For now, enjoy the Beat Dropping.

Upgrades

I recently made some changes to the website in hopes that it will make navigation and search easier. I added labels to each post so that posts can be grouped by genre (see sidebar under "Genres"). Also don't be afraid to comment on posts; your opinion is welcomed as well as wanted. Hope you're enjoying the Beat Dropping

One More for Your Monday Night

I'm obsessed with Trevor Hall's voice, and when I found this song from last summer, I knew it would be good just by knowing he was pairing up with Matisyahu. Labeled "Unity," this song is primarily dominated by Hall, but Matisyahu manages to interject his trade mark voice, which serves as the perfect compliment. His beatboxing around the six minute mark is simply great. A classic song and an awesome duo.

Looping with Ari Herstand

Ari is new to me, which comes as a surprise as he's been opening for artists that have been in my library for a long time. Coming from his website, Ari Herstand has "opened for Ben Folds, Cake, Eric Hutchinson, Matt Nathanson and Joshua Radin...and is known for his solo, live looping abilities: melding the acoustic guitar, keyboard, trumpet, tambourine, vocals and beat boxing seamlessly – to create a visually entertaining and full sonic live experience." A truly unique sound, Ari's sound reminds me of Dub FX mixed with a little Jason Mraz. I hope you enjoy, and thanks to my sister, Patterson, for introducing me to him.

Float On By (Live at The Pause) - Ari Herstand

A Brenton Duvall Surprise

Probably one of the biggest unexpected combinations I've seen produced, Brenton Duvall's "Time For What You Want," drops Biggie's verses on Semisonic's "Closing Time." I would have never thought the two would match as well as they do, but then again, we're talking about Brenton Duvall. Every track this kid throws out is golden. Catchy and surprising, Duvall's tracks never fail to impress. Be sure to follow him on twitter @brentonrules. Oh and one more thing, he claims he made this track in under an hour.

In case for some reason your music library is utterly boring and outdated, here's one of Brenton's finest:

A Week In Review: Acoustics

Here's your acoustic fix for last week, along with a spotlight on up and coming singer/songwriter Darius Lux (pictured above). Based out of Los Angeles, Lux was brought to my attention by LaFamos PR & Branding. Lux's "latest EP, Time Is Now, expresses genuine emotions of overcoming fears and life challenges." Lux's music falls under the  pop/rock genre, not normally seen on Beat Dropping all too often, but hopefully you'll enjoy his music. If you like what you hear from him, as well as the other artists featured in this post, be sure to support their music via iTunes or other retail stores.

Lights (Ellie Goulding Remix) - Shook
